The development of
Siddharthangar started in 1934A.D. when the district headquarter
shifted to Bhairahawa from Bethari. Bhairahawanagar Panchyet
was Established in 1968A.D., which was later converted to
Siddharthanagar Panchyat after the name of Lord Gautam Buddha.
Siddharthanagar a unique city lies near to the holy Lumbini,
the birthplace of Lord Buddha and famous, sacred place of
pilgrimage for millions of Buddhists and place of archaeological
importance.
It is the main entry & exit point of
tourist and a strategic point of export & import. It expands
from 2731 N Latitude to 8326 N Longitude covering the area
of 35.7sq.km. The elevation of the city is 110 M. The temperature
reaches to Max of 45.2C to minimum of 9C in the winter. The
average annual rainfall is 1436.5mm. Siddharthanagar is situated
in the terai plains of southern Nepal. Its southern border
is joined with the U.P. state of India. It is 284km south
of the capital city Kathamandu. All major cities within the
kingdom have regular bus services to and from Siddharthanagar.
A large number of hotels travel agencies as well as restaurants
and bars are in operation.
Siddharthangar
is famous as one of the major commercial cities of Nepal.
The major commercial activities include food products and
food grains, fancy stores, electronic etc. Almost 100-150
trucks are entered via Sunauli in Siddharthangar daily. A
dry port has recently been constructed at Belahiya. Almost
40-50% of goods are imported from India through Sunauli entry
